Careers for Those Who Love Nature

September 26, 2018 by Juliann

Have you always been interested in wildlife and the natural world? Perhaps you spent hours as a child watching ants scurrying around in their nest or grew bean seeds in jars of water so you could see their roots spreading. If you have an affinity for nature, what better career could there be for you than one based in the world of green and growing things?

The options for potential careers have become increasingly diverse with the efforts to both preserve wildlife and habitats, while at the same time looking for ways to increase global food production. This has led to some opportunities for nature-related careers in some less obvious industries.

Global agriculture

Agriculture is one of the key industries worldwide, delivering the majority of the world’s food to its population. There is a constant need for people who can work on developing better plants and bigger crops, balanced against trying to impact the natural world too severely. For example, using a trusted commercial seed company in the Philippines that works with developing countries can make your business much more environmentally friendly and ethical. Working with them would give you a chance to use your knowledge of and love for nature to improve food production in poorer countries while maintaining natural resources.

National agriculture

Closer to home, the use of pesticides and herbicides over many decades has led to speculation about the health implications of chemical use and the impact on native flora and fauna. This is another growth area that needs bright, forward-thinking and enthusiastic scientists and ecologists to ask the right questions and work on solutions to the issues raised. Increasing numbers of chemicals are being withdrawn from agricultural use, but the problems they were designed to treat and prevent are still a threat. Therefore, work is ongoing to find alternative solutions, and a knowledge of and respect for the natural environment could be valuable skills in the pursuit of answers. On top of this, the utilization of effective services in agriculture such as Agricultural and farm earthwork services is essential to help alleviate soil erosion as well as manage water drainage.

Tourism

While some folks still want to visit the plains of Africa to hunt big game, most people prefer the idea of going on a safari and watching the animals in their native habitat without harming or disturbing them. The growth in nature tourism has been a success story for many developing countries, often contributing towards the retention and protection of habitats and a change in attitudes to the natural world. Finding work as a tour guide or assistant at national parks and nature and game reserves across the globe is becoming easier as this industry develops.

The environment and nature are what our world is based on, and working to protect and nurture them is more than just a worthwhile career. Food supply is an ever-present problem that as global populations continue to rise will continue to require innovation and scientific endeavor. If you feel concerned about the impact of agriculture, population, climate change, or any of the other threats to the natural world, then there is plenty of opportunities to use your skills and knowledge to improve life for both humans and wildlife by going into a career in nature.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
