How to Make Your Divorce go Smoothly

April 26, 2019 by Juliann

Getting a divorce is something that no one wants to think they will have to go through in their lives, but it is something you might find yourself having to cope with if your marriage breaks down. As you grow up and mature, it is often the case that you can grow apart from your partner and this can take many forms. Sometimes, it is as simple as realizing that you are no longer in love with them; other times, it can be caused by not having the same life goals anymore or arguing all the time, creating an unpleasant home environment.

The following article has compiled some useful information to help your divorce proceedings go smoothly and limit the emotional impact on you both.

Bringing up a divorce with your spouse

First of all, you need to know how to approach the conversation of divorce with your current partner, as this conversation will set the tone for how you both approach seeking a divorce.

Before you bring it up, you need to be entirely sure that you want to end things as, after you say you want a divorce, you will hurt your partner and the chances are that if you change your mind, they won’t want to give things another go. Can the problems you face be solved and, more importantly, do you want to put in the effort to solve them?

Once you have decided that divorce is the option you want, make sure you choose the right time and setting to tell your spouse. Try to do it in your shared home when it is just the two of you so that they have the privacy they need to go through their emotions. Alongside this, let a friend or family member know you are going to do this and agree that you can stay over at their place in case your partner needs some time to themselves.

Make sure you both have a clean break

Once you have brought up wanting a divorce, you need to find ways of having a clean break following your decision to divorce because it can be a lengthy process.

Make sure you are there if they want to talk things through for the first month, but after this, you need to establish some boundaries so that you don’t fall back into a relationship that made you unhappy or gives your ex the impression there is hope to save the marriage.

Get proper legal representation

You need to get yourself a good divorce lawyer Lake County, IL to ensure that the legal aspect of the divorce is simple. During this time, you may feel like you should try and get all you can in terms of money and possessions so that you come out on top, but this can cause even more hurt to your partner. Always try and be fair with the way things are divided up and try to have a conversation with your ex before you begin the proceedings so that you are on the same page.

Welcome to Beautiful Moms

Hi! I’m Juliann, a wife to my wonderful husband, Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I first started Beautiful Moms Blog in 2008, my goal was to connect with and support other moms who were in the thick of raising young children. It became a creative outlet where I could share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with companies that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It’s so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. I have always believed that every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she’s in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms Blog has grown and evolved right along with me. Today, my children are adults, and I have embraced the blessings of being a grandma. My passion for encouraging women hasn’t changed—it has simply expanded to include every season of motherhood, from pregnancy and the newborn years to raising teenagers, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

I’m excited to have my daughter, Myelie, as a contributor to Beautiful Moms. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood. She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a home wherever life takes you.

Together, we’re here to support women through every age and stage of motherhood—from pregnancy to menopause—with helpful advice, honest product recommendations, beauty and wellness tips, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

We are PR Friendly and love working with great companies!
