Budgeting Tips for Moms

December 12, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Amid the current financial circumstances and the upcoming festive season, moms across the globe are looking to adjust their budgets accordingly. Whether it’s to factor in Zakat for 2023 or Christmas presents for the kiddies, it’s fair to say that plenty of moms will handle their finances a little differently this year. It’s a challenging time for everyone, and to tackle the global economic crisis, we’re all going to have to make some changes. As our electricity bills skyrocket and the cost of fuel shoots up, we’re, unfortunately, going to have to make changes elsewhere.

Detailed below are some of the top budgeting tips for moms.

Cook and Eat at Home

First up is cooking and eating at home; as most moms know, cooking and eating at home is a much cheaper alternative to take-outs and restaurants. Even if you purchase the finest groceries, you’ll still find that eating at home is cheaper. As a result, you’ll likely find that you’re eating better quality food when remaining at home. This isn’t to say that you need to eliminate occasional treats from your life; however, if you’re eating out on a weekly basis, this will soon add up. What’s more, if you’re planning a day out, packing a picnic is all you need to feel nourished and satisfied for a fraction of the price of eating out.

Use Cashback Apps and Coupons

Cashback apps are like modern coupons, in which you’re rewarded with real money for buying essentials. Despite this, old-fashioned coupons in the newspaper still exist. So, don’t be afraid to pick up your local paper and scour it for all the best deals. Similarly, coupons also exist in an online capacity on sites like Groupon, providing you with discounts on events and activities. Therefore, whether it’s your groceries or finding fun and affordable things to do with the kids, coupons have got you covered.

Plan for Snacks

Every mom knows the struggle of their kid(s) wanting a snack every five minutes (especially when they’ve refused to eat their dinner). Therefore, it’s a good idea to plan for these snack demands, just as you should with family meals. Non-perishable snacks are the best choice, as this helps you avoid throwing away expired goods when they don’t get eaten, wasting both food and money. You should keep these non-perishable goods everywhere: in the house, car, stroller, your purse, etc. Healthy non-perishable snacks include dried fruit, popcorn, breakfast bars, rice cakes, and sweet potato chips.

Buy Groceries Online

When you don’t put a shopping list together, overbuying for groceries becomes inevitable. Despite this, even when you have a list with you, deviating away from this list is easily done as you become tempted by the goodies in the supermarket. You can somewhat avoid these temptations by shopping for groceries online, as you’re able to search for exactly what you need, add it to your cart, and move on to the next item. In doing this, you can have your groceries delivered directly to your home, or you can even schedule a pickup.

Meal Plan

Following on from buying exactly what you need, you should be sure to meal plan every week to create your shopping list. Planning breakfast, lunch, and dinner for every day of the week ensures that you’re not hit with any surprises and forced to splash out on an unexpected pricey food item. Without a meal plan, you’ll just find yourself buying recklessly and might even end up with a smorgasbord of things that don’t even make a meal. A meal plan is the best way to help you stay on track.
