Coping When The Entire Family Gets Sick

February 6, 2020 by Juliann

If there’s one thing that no parent wants, it is having the entire family off sick from work and school. However, the truth is that sometimes when a bug sweeps around the entire community, this can occur.

Being off sick when your children are can be a total nightmare, particularly as it’s extremely difficult to look after a sick child when you’re feeling unwell yourself.

While having the whole family off sick, including yourself, isn’t an enjoyable experience, the good news is that there are plenty of ways you can make life easier. It’s just a case of knowing how to approach the situation to ensure as little stress and strain as possible.

In need of a helping hand? Below are some tips and tricks to take note of.

Utilize the internet

When it comes to stocking up the cupboards with lots of healthy foods and energizing drinks to help get your family’s health back on track, the last thing you want is to have to leave the house. That’s why taking advantage of the internet is such a good idea.

Do a food shop online; stock your trolley with lots of healthy, wholesome foods that will help to give your family’s immune system a boost. In need of some vitamins or medication too? Utilize online chemists, like Chemist Direct, for instance, and order whatever you and your little ones need, directly to your door. By using a service like Chemist Direct, you can make the process of getting the medication that you need, far easier and less stressful.

Ask for help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness. Every so often, we all need a little bit of extra help, so don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for some support. Whether it’s from a friend or family member, there’s no harm in asking for a little help. Whether you are struggling to cook food for yourself and your family or need to pick something up from somewhere, don’t be afraid to ask a loved one for help. The chances are, they will be more than happy to lend a hand. Just think, if it was the other way around, would you want to help them out? If your answer is yes, then they will almost certainly feel the same.

Rest

The key to healing is rest, which is why when you’re unwell it’s so vital that you take the time to rest. When the entire family is off sick it can be a total nightmare finding enough time for you to get the rest to recuperate that you need; however, that doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Why not suggest a family movie day? You can all relax in bed or on the sofa while watching movies. A movie day is a great way to give yourself a chance to rest as well as encouraging your little ones to do the same.

There you have it, a few helpful hacks for coping when the entire family is off sick.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
