Moving to Canada: 5 Best Reasons for Considering Ontario

February 4, 2020 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Whether or not you choose to raise a family, is Ontario a viable choice for a new life? We offer 5 compelling reasons for you to consider moving to Ontario.

Whether you’re moving to Ontario from another city or another country, your question will be the same: will I and my family have a better life here? Read on to see if you can have a favorable answer to your question. Here are some good reasons for moving to Ontario.

1. The Housing Market is Attractive

Ontario is composed of several booming cities. The housing markets in different areas offer a diverse selection of properties that fit your mortgage budget. Depending on where you want to settle in Ontario and what you’re looking for, you’ll still manage to find good choices for homes in this area.

For instance, in Cambridge, Ontario, the average house is priced at a reasonable $470,891, which isn’t bad for a city that is rich in culture and has a lot of big companies that offer good employment opportunities. You can have a better picture of available Ontario homes for sale if you consult a realtor.

Just make sure that when buying a home, you don’t bite off more than you can chew—you should still have enough money for your daily and monthly expenses.

2. Employment Opportunities are Abundant

The Canadian economy is predicted to taper off and slow down a bit this year. But generally, the demand for labor remains steady in most parts of Canada and the unemployment rate is at only 6.1%, the lowest it’s been in the past 40 years. Ontario has a slightly lower unemployment rate of 5.9%, and the region is adding another 185,900 jobs each year, with 150,600 of those jobs being full-time positions. Ontario’s employment has steadily been growing at a rate of 2.6%, 0.6% higher than the national rate of 2%. You can read more about Ontario’s job market situation here.

3. Ontario has Good Schools

If you have elementary school-aged children, you’ll be glad to know that Ontario has elementary schools that are among the best in the world. As for their collegiate studies, Ontario has eleven of the best universities in Canada.

4. There’s Plenty to See Here

Ontario boasts of a lot of tourist attractions. Don’t visit them all at once; reserve them for different seasons. For starters, you can visit the world-famous Niagara Falls or go on a boat tour of The Thousand Islands. The Thousand Islands are composed of 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, and the area is ideal for swimming, fishing, boating, and even scuba diving. Every year from April to October, there’s also a festival for theatre aficionados—the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. For nature enthusiasts, there are many places to explore in Ontario, such as Point Pelee National Park, a place where over 350 different migratory birds come to roost.

5. Most Healthcare is Free

In Ontario, even immigrants who have yet to earn their citizenship get temporary healthcare coverage. While you can get medical treatment for most illnesses or injuries without paying a single cent, dental treatments aren’t free.

These are the common reasons many people cite for moving to Ontario, and most don’t regret doing so. If you want to live and raise a family in a huge Canadian province that’s both a bustling metropolis and a serene spot surrounded by nature, Ontario might be the place for you.
