Harvest is in full swing in the Willamette Valley! The Columbia Empire Farms team is hard at work with 2016 hazelnut harvest activities. In celebration of the season, Columbia Empire Farms wants to share some notes from this year’s harvest with you.
Report for September 2016:
Oregon has a terrific climate for the Hazelnuts! This year the conditions couldn’t be better. We’ve had enough rain, sun and wind to bring the nuts to the ground.
Harvest is happening about 2 weeks earlier this year due to warm conditions.
After being sorted, cleaned and dried; we roast and package or roast and make them into lovely confections.
We dry roast our hazelnuts. No oil is used. The roasting process brings the flavor of the natural oils out in our hazelnuts.
September is ideal for harvesting hazelnuts, producing great quality nuts that can be enjoyed year-round. Want to know all of the products that hazelnuts can produce? If you are close you should head on over to Columbia Empire Farms and delight in all of their nutty treats.
I certainly plan on paying them a visit really soon! I drive by these beautiful Hazelnut orchards several times a month when I go to visit my sister. Hazelnuts are my favorite type of nut. I especially love the delicious hazelnut milkshakes from Burgerville. Yum!
