How to Build a Moving Schedule

August 20, 2024 by Juliann

The time allocation for your movement depends on the circumstances of your move and the volume of stuff you have to transport. Last minute move is the event of extremely narrow time constraints, so we won’t advise you on this case. Instead, let’s consider the situation when you plan the move with the new living place in mind.

Start with decluttering your apartment. The less things you have to transport, the better: it lessens the cost of moving and can lower the transport requirements. As long as you have the final item list, you can start searching for a moving company in your area https://paramountmoving.ca/. The professional movers can estimate the cost of moving and transportation time, whether you move across the country or just to the city next to you. They also can get you the packing materials you might need.

After you have the items list, you can start packing. For a two-bedroom apartment it can take 2-6 weeks as you have to start packing non-essential items like off-season clothing, books, and decorative items, and gradually pack every item from every room, starting with the bedrooms and ending with the bathroom, so only the essential items are left unpacked. In the same time frame, you will be dealing with reconnecting utilities to the new address, redirecting mail and collecting all the important documents.

Typically, local moving takes 1 day, so in 3-5 days before the move confirm the logistics with your moving company, clean the apartment and pack the essentials. On the moving day you should supervise the movers to ensure everything is loaded properly and do a final walk-through of your old apartment.

Settling in at the new place can take up to 1 week, as you unpack essential items first and set up utilities and start arranging furniture in your new home. To conclude, if you pack super-fast and experience no emergencies, the moving will take 4 weeks, but it could feel too rushed, and you may forget something important while trying to fit into a busy schedule. So, it is better to plan ahead for 6-8 weeks from start to finish. Such schedule allows for a relaxed pace, giving you time to address any unexpected issues that may arise.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
