Did you know-

  • Nearly 15% of pregnant women face miscarriage (The number could be higher, as many losses are unreported too).
  • The common cause of early pregnancy loss is chromosomal abnormalities, and the rates are a whopping 70% abnormal genetics prior to 20 weeks.

Miscarriages can be due to a number of reasons, including medical issues, obesity, thyroid disorders, and so on. If you want to decrease the chances of stillbirth and miscarriages, this article is for you.

Keep reading to know more about controlling the risks and improving the odds of a healthy pregnancy.

Wash your hands – There is no denying the fact that several infections are responsible for stillbirth and miscarriage. And adopting good hand hygiene can help you fight those infections. Also, don’t forget to keep a social distance from sick people. Always use soap and warm water to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

Eat a healthy diet – Eating right is not just recommended for losing weight. But the research has come up with the results that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables works well in lowering pregnancy complications. Moreover, with the help of a healthy diet, your weight should be in control, and you can maintain an optimal blood sugar level. Therefore, choose a good source of folate, iodine, vitamins, and calcium-rich foods like legumes, fruits, yogurt, and dairy products. Ultimately, you will be good to go.

Taking vitamins and supplements may be necessary to prevent certain health risks. For example, most doctors will prescribe a folic acid supplement during the prenatal stage to prevent birth defects of the baby’s brain. There are also supplements that help with pregnancy symptoms such as inositol for mood and stress support. Talk to your health-care provider about which vitamins and supplements you need to take for a healthier and happier pregnancy.

Pay attention in the kitchen – Several food-borne illnesses are there that are linked to the risk of miscarriage. Experts recommend the pregnant women to steer clear from foods like unpasteurized cheese or undercooked meat. But this is not enough. Women should also be well-versed in the safe handling of food. For instance – refrigerate the leftover food promptly, consume or freeze meat/fish within 1-2 days of purchase, to name a few.

Start prenatal care – Have you started prenatal care? If not, then this is high time to do so. Health and pregnancy problems could lead to miscarriage if untreated. Examples of such problems are – High blood pressure, uterus abnormalities, sexually transmitted infections, etc. In this case, the professionals at obgyn upper east side recommend that your doctor should tell you how often you have to come for the checkups. Going as per his advice will make him determine the problems at an early stage if it exists. As a result, you can deal with it timely.

Say goodbye to alcohol – If you are the one who frequently consumes alcohol, then you need to stop right here. Why? It can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome in the child that may cause brain damage and growth problems in the newborn. You don’t want that. Right? Do not think of consuming it in a small amount. At this time, doctors recommend abstaining from alcohol. All this is for the benefit of your child only. Hence, say goodbye to the alcohol.

To sum it up all

It is needless to say that the pregnancy stage is like a new life for women. You not only want to enjoy this phase but also want to ensure that you and your baby remain healthy. So, start following the above steps, and you will be healthier.
