The start of a new year means many people start to look for ways they can make improvements to their lives and start afresh. And the change in the date means that a brand new year is the perfect opportunity to wipe the slate clean and make some changes.
But what changes can you and should you make? That is entirely up to you, but if you want some inspiration on what you can do moving into the new year to make 2024 the year you do what you need or want to do, this post has some suggestions.
New Year’s Resolutions
People the world over make New Year’s Resolutions and around 38% of Americans are included in this figure. A resolution can be anything you want it to be. From the typical losing weight and getting fit resolutions to Christian New Years resolutions, there are many for you to choose from.
Read on for some excellent resolutions and positive changes to make this year that can impact your life.
Make A Career Plan
A great focus for a new year is to look at your career goals and determine what you want to get from your employment this year. Do you want to progress into management, find a new position within the company you work for, go back to school, or even start your own business? Make a plan of what you want and how you can get there, and make this year the year you move forward.
Improve Your Sleep
The average adult doesn’t get the required 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Sleep deprivation can impact your quality of life and lead to weight gain, poor health, low moods, and decreased energy levels.
Make it a priority to improve your sleeping pattern and see how much it can impact your life. Set a regular bedtime that allows you enough time to wind down each day and get enough sleep. A good tip can be to try to regulate your circadian rhythm. You need around 4-6 cycles per night, and each one is approximately 90 minutes each. Waking up at the end of a cycle will make you feel more refreshed and make it easier to get up, so experiment with timings to see what works for you.
Volunteer
Make it your aim to give back in little ways to your local community or with a charity that is close to your heart. It can be offering an hour or two of your time a week or a month; it can be assisting with errands, hosting support groups, providing practical assistance such as transport, or anything else.
Volunteering and helping others around you can be a great way to support people, give yourself something to look forward to, and give you a sense of satisfaction. If you’re looking for something to give you purpose or meaning, then this can be it.
Learn Something New
Doing something new or learning something new each week can be a great way to push yourself out of your comfort zone. It can be picking up a new sport to try or a fitness training program; it can be learning a new recipe, a new language, teaching yourself a new skill such as DIY or computer programming, or anything else. Make it your mission to learn something new each week or month and increase your knowledge and capabilities.
Be Positive
It can be so easy to see the negative in life, but the small things can really help you to look past the doom and gloom and find things to be thankful for. You can practice journaling or simply make a note in your head of the positives, but making a point to see the good things in life can help you to improve your mindset, which in turn can support mental health and allow you to get more from life. Even if it’s something small and seemingly insignificant, such as witnessing a rainbow on your way to work or accepting a compliment, log it, enjoy it, and allow the good to replace the bad.
Make A Change
Finally, why not make a change in your life? You can change your hairstyle and clothing style, change your mind, and change it back again. You can update your home decor, make massive life changes such as getting a new job or moving house, change your friendship circle, or absolutely anything you want. Nothing is permanent, and you can make any changes you want to that will positively benefit your life.
There is never a better time than the new year to do those things you have been wanting to do. Take stock of what you want from your life, make a plan, and get to work making this year a good one.
