Simple Improvements to Increase Your Home’s Value

September 27, 2019 by Juliann

For most, the day to day maintenance of your house usually involves cleaning, and that’s a far as it goes. Most only tackle other problems if and when they arise, which means there could be a lot of hidden issues within your house that you’re simply unaware of because they haven’t risen their ugly head yet, and they’re sneakily decreasing your home’s value.

It’s time you faced them head-on and made a few quick and easy changes to fix them up and get your home in the tip-top shape you know it can be.

1. Redecorate

When was the last time you redecorated your kitchen? Your living room? Or even your bathroom? If you’re struggling to count the years it’s been, it might be time to spruce your home up with a new lick of paint. It can be a simple as that; if your wallpaper is peeling at the edges or looks damaged in any way, or your paint isn’t looking as bright as it used to, then revamp it. New paint can bring a sheen and brightness to any room and will make it look as good as new.

2. Fix Up Old Furnishings

Drawers and cabinets squeak all the time and a drop of oil is usually enough to get them back into working order, but if yours are getting stuck every now and then or they’re ill-fitted, then a new cabinet drawer from cabinetdoorsnmore.com is probably in order. Make sure all your kitchen cupboards and cabinets are working perfectly, and your home’s value will inevitably be increased!

3. Gardening

When thinking about your home’s value, it can be easy to only think about what’s inside the four walls and nothing else, but your garden and your driveway, if you have one, are all part of your home’s value as well. If you don’t take care of those, they can significantly bring it down, and all your hard work inside will be for nothing.

So, it’s time to get out your gardening tools and tidy up any unruly plants and trim the hedgerows. If you want to give your garden that extra flair, consider investing in some garden furniture or nurturing some flowers as well. You could even get the kids involved in doing some planting too!

4. Make the Most of What You Have

Sometimes, you could be sitting on a goldmine and you don’t even have a clue!

If you have a fireplace that you don’t use and is gathering dust, you could clean it up and test that it’s working perfectly. If you have a spare room that currently looks like an extra cupboard where you put all the stuff that doesn’t have its own space, tidy it up and make it into a spare bedroom or an office.

It’s easy to overlook these things when you live with them day-to-day but try to have a think about your space and if you could be using it better than you already do.

Whether you’re planning to move sometime soon, or you want to change things up for your own benefit, there are plenty of ways to make your home the best that it can be.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
