I have always been intrigued by corsets. I just remember seeing them in movies, such as Titanic, when young Rose’s mother was angrily tightening her corset. And then all of the media hype about the Kardashians wearing them to achieve those flawless hourglass figures. I was wondering if they would really work to help me slim my middle and create a sexier waistline?
After searching online for my idea of the perfect corset, I discovered Orchard Corset. I was really drawn in by their vast selection of some of the sexiest corsets I have ever seen! After a bit of browsing, I chose myself a black satin style, that I absolutely love. It is perfect for me.
Here are the top five benefits of wearing a corset.(I borrowed these from Orchard’s website, but added in my own thoughts)
1. They are damn sexy! Whenever I wear mine, I feel kind of like I am wearing something kind of naughty under my clothing, like silky lingerie. It makes me feel kind of empowered and very feminine. My husband loves seeing me in it, as well. (With or without clothing!) If you’ve got the right size and style, you feel pretty amazing as soon as you cinch those laces. No need to tightly lace it either, just snug it up to your body.
2. You lost your waist, and want to see it again! It happens so gradually that we don’t always notice, but one morning you wake up, look in the mirror and realize that your waistline seems to have disappeared! Yes, you can diet, exercise, drop a few pounds … but let’s face it, sometimes you just want that “look” again NOW! This is exactly what I wanted! I cannot believe how it has changed my shape!
3. Back support and better posture! I remember my mother would always gently push my shoulders back, when I was a teenager and say.”shoulders back.” I am grateful to her for that reminder to stand up straight and tall. However, I do tend to slouch because I am lazy, and my back gets sore from standing up straight all the time. Thankfully, my corset keeps my back straight the entire time I am wearing it. It kind of ‘holds me up.’ A woman with perfect posture is a confident woman! People won’t be messing with a confident, self-assured lady. And again…confidence is sexy!
4. Waist Training! This is the reason I wanted to get myself a corset in the first place. Let’s just say my girlish figure might have lost its luster over the years, after having four children and getting older. I want back my youthful, sexy physique! It is amazing to see the transformation in just a few short weeks of wearing my corset!
5. Pain Relief! Many corset wearers have reported that wearing their corset has relieved back pain due to scoliosis and other back-related injuries. Thankfully, I have not needed to wear mine for pain relief, but I do tweak my back now and then. I wonder if my corset might help me to not injure my back in the first place? Time will tell.
6. Look better in your clothing! I love wearing form fitting dresses, and the corset helps my dresses to look better on my body.
For example, look at the photos below. In the fist one, I am not wearing my corset. My shape is very undesirable. I have an unattractive waistline:
In this photo, I am wearing my corset under my dress, and It makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE in how my dress fits me, and how lovely my shape looks:
When I first received my corset, I only wore it to look good in my dresses that I wear to church. I was not ready for waist training until very recently. I wanted to wait until the weather was cooler. I have begun my waist training only last week. My plan is to lose inches from around my waist, and to re-shape my torso into my long desired hourglass shape.
I chose the Underbust Satin Corset. It is my first corset, and I love it. At first, I was wondering how I would be able to stand wearing it all day long, but I got used to it pretty quickly, and now I find it very comfortable. I am wearing it both daily and nightly!
The first time I put it on, I had my husband help me adjust it to find the perfect fit for my body. Now I am able to put it on myself without help. Orchard made the entire process of choosing the right size and style very simple!
(My husband will not allow me to pose in my corset for photos, so here is a model’s photo of the corset I have, taken from their website.)
Waist training does take commitment. Below are a few tips and tricks you will need to properly waist train: (I have taken these from Orchard Corset’s website, and summarized them. Read the full set of tips and instructions here.
1. Make sure you get your size right.
2. Find a waist trainer that fits your body type.
3. Your corset will need “seasoning.” The first time you lace up your corset, it’s important you DON’T lace it too tightly. It will need to be adjusted. The boning will take on your shape as the corset adjusts to your body. Trying to force the corset too quickly can damage and warp the boning-and cause you some discomfort as well.
5. Only wear your corset 1.5 – 2 hours the first time you wear it. Repeat this step several times over the first several days of breaking in your corset. This applies not just to those who wish to waist train, but also those people who have purchased a corset for a special occasion like a wedding or event. Listen to your body and take it slow!
6. If you plan on waist training, the keyword is “gradually.” Don’t tighten to the point where it’s painful. We recommend gradually increasing your time from 1.5 hours a day to around 6-8 hours a day over the course of 10-14 days. Take your time lacing yourself down tighter … don’t rush it! I know you want to see your results TODAY, but you risk damaging the corset (and yourself) if you try too much too soon.
7. Give yourself a break. Even the most aggressive waist trainers take days off. You will find that some days you can wear your corset for many hours, and other days only for a few.
8. Partner your waist training with a healthy diet and exercise regimen … specifically core strengthening exercises. If you take care of your body, you’ll have a great chance of seeing results and feeling great both in and out of your corset.
9. Don’t exercise in your corset.
10. Don’t expect results from a lingerie or fashion corset like you might find at Frederick’s of Hollywood or Victoria’s Secret. Fashion corsets are designed for looks, not waist training, and often don’t have the steel boning necessary to “cinch” properly. It’s equivalent to wearing a tube top and expecting an hourglass figure.
11. Don’t use a waist cincher if you’re allergic to latex. Cinchers are most often made of latex.
12. If you’re between sizes, choose the larger one. A corset is meant to be tight, but not that tight. You will not achieve your desired results any faster and will likely damage the corset (and even potentially your body) wearing a corset that’s too tight.
13. For maximum results, purchase a high quality corset made with flat & spiral steel bones and a flat steel busk.
14. If you don’t want anyone to know you’re waist training, learn the ins and outs of “stealthing.”
15. If you plan to waist train while you’re sleeping, cinch up your corset about an inch to an inch and half less than you would for daytime corseting.
