Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Ariel Ostad Introduces Ultherapy®, the Latest Technology in Skin Rejuvenation

Within the last few years there has been a large demand for no downtime, non-invasive alternatives to common plastic surgery procedures. Many companies, researchers and medical experts are now rediscovering an age-old technology for state-of-the-art skincare treatments - ultrasound. An Arizona-based therapeutic medical technology company, Ulthera, is introducing a ground-breaking device called Ultherapy® that is designed for full face and neck skin-tightening treatments; and is currently the only in-office aesthetics device approved by the FDA for a lift indication. “Ultrasound has been around for decades and is widely used around the world in medical applications,” says Dr. Ariel Ostad, a board certified Dermatologist and Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgeon in New York City.
“Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to first visualize and ‘see’ what the skin looks like under the surface then delivers calculated ultrasonic energy waves that stimulates the body’s healing response to lay down new collagen. The Ulthera System is creating a brand new category in beauty and raising the bar for aesthetic medical procedures.”
What is Ultherapy? Ultrasound uses the cutting-edge technology of very high speed, low-frequency sound waves that radiate invisible micro vibrations deep within cells, helping stimulate the skin’s natural repair mechanisms in distinct ways.
The Ultherapy device takes radiation-free images of the inner layers of skin and heats the areas to be treated, causing the skin to respond and create collagen, a protein that gives the skin the appearance of fullness and smoothness. The treatment precisely targets tissue beneath the skin’s surface, leaving the top layers unharmed. Dr Ostad states, “Ultherapy can be used anywhere on the body where there is skin to be tightened."
Common areas are:
· Lifted and smoother brow appearance
· Reduced eyelid sagging
· Firmer, tighter skin overall on the face and neck
· Before and after weight loss abdomen skin tightening
· Floppy upper arms
· Saggy knees · Lip vertical lines
· Décolleté lines
· Creping chest/breast skin
According to Dr. Ostad, “One of the first effects of gravity is that the brows descend, and the eyes start to appear smaller. Ultherapy will lift the brow, which in turn reduces the excess skin on the lids, opens up the eyes and gives a more refreshed appearance.”
The beauty of Ultherapy is that it is a 30 to 60 minute procedure that uses the body’s own subtle healing response to gently, gradually and reliably restore collagen and its underlying tissue.
Ultherapy requires no special recuperation or preparation and typically only takes one treatment to get a meaningful response. Patients enjoy some initial effect immediately following the procedure, but the ultimate lifting will take place over two to three months, as diminished collagen is rejuvenated and supplemented with new, stronger collagen.
Dr. Ostad explains that, “Just like exercise builds a muscle, it is this heat energy that builds collagen and provides an overall lifting effect to the face and neck.” Dr. Ariel Ostad Introduces Ultherapy to Patients at New York City Practice .
Dr. Ostad is pleased to be one of the first in New York to offer men and women the Ulthera System, a non-invasive option beyond face lifts and Botox injections. There is a broad range of people who can benefit from Ultherapy, but typically those in their thirties and older are candidates.
“I am enthused about bringing Ultherapy to my patients. It represents a new category of treatment that is both safe and effective in producing reliable and cosmetically pleasing results,” says Dr. Ostad. “Patients will especially appreciate that there is no downtime.”
Dr. Ostad notes that Ultherapy is not a replacement for a face lift. “There’s no magic bullet, but doing things earlier could eliminate the need for surgery. It could at least push the process back.”
One major advantage of the Ulthera device used for skin tightening is that it is not only therapeutic, but also a diagnostic ultrasound device.
Unlike with most lasers and RF devices, Dr. Ostad can visualize the layers of the skin and the target tissues with ultrasound making it a guided ultrasound.
“Skin tightening is much desired by cosmetic patients, and guided ultrasound treatments may potentially be a major contribution of dermatology to the realm of aesthetics,” says Dr. Ostad.
