3 Ways to Save Closet Space

February 18, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

In this day and age, countless events, things, and people can disrupt one’s peace. As such, it’s important now more than ever to dedicate a space for yourself where you can feel free from the pressures and stresses of daily life.

Everyone would get to go home to a clean and cozy home if we lived in an ideal world, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case in reality. Society has never been busier and more cluttered. Everywhere you go, you run the risk of being overwhelmed by the volume of stuff that must be addressed, while also being pressured by the little time that is quickly running out.

Living in a Cluttered World

There is a lot that needs to be accomplished in so little time. Sometimes, the list of things to do will feel endless, leaving one feeling defeated. You’re not alone—many have a lot on their plate and find it challenging to exert energy on even the most trivial things.

Busyness is a part of normal daily life, so much so that some people view it as a necessity to avoid emptiness. “When you are busy, life has a purpose,” as others may say. While there’s nothing wrong with being busy, it’s crucial to keep yourself from drowning in expectations and various other things to keep life from seeming meaningless.

Being too busy and having an extreme amount of clutter will only lead to an unpleasant outcome. How you live your life and the state of the environments you expose yourself to will either improve your wellbeing or worsen it.

If you want to keep the clutter to a minimum and achieve inner peace amidst having a busy life, the first step is to start organizing your home. And what better way to begin decluttering your humble abode than with your closet?

The Impact of a Messy Closet

Clothes have a significant impact on how people see themselves and how others view them. Most of all, wearing the right clothes that fit your style and perfectly reflect your personality boosts confidence! However, although it’s abnormal to care about what to wear, you must also care about the place in which you store your wardrobe.

A closet isn’t just a place where you stuff your clothes in—it’s a safe space to keep your precious fashion items. If you’re just cramming everything in your closet without regard for how they all fit with each other, you’re in for a chaotic time dressing up for the day!

To some, 24 hours sounds like a lot, but it may feel much shorter. Depending on your schedule and lifestyle, you may prefer to save as much time as possible so that you can focus on the essential stuff.

Well, if you have a messy closet, chances are that you’ve been spending more minutes than you’d like picking what to wear for the workday, and even more time when dressing up for special occasions.

For instance, it would be such a hassle to have to take out the majority of your clothes just to look for the date night outfit you have in mind, wouldn’t it? To make your mornings simpler and your life less busy, find ways to deal with your closet chaos and create more space.

How to Organize Your Closet and Create More Space

An organized home leads to happier and more comfortable days and starting with your closet will usher in good things your way. At first, tackling the challenging task of creating more closet space without renovating your closet will seem nearly impossible, but it’s an attainable goal!

No matter how small your closet is, there are incredible ways to squeeze in more space without creating a jumble of a mess. Gone are the days when you worry about your clothes spilling out once you open the closet doors! With the right tips, anyone can have a clean, organized closet where there is a space for everything.

Continue reading to find out how to maximize your closet space:

Let Go of Ill-Fitting Clothes

Let’s face it—some of your clothes don’t fit you anymore or have long gone out of style. If you have some clothes that you haven’t worn in a year because they’re either too tight or too loose, it’s time to let it go.

While you may think that you’ll fit into your clothes soon, the truth is that no one can change sizes quickly. This way, you’ll have more space for the clothes you wear often.

Rather than letting your unworn clothes collect dust and consume space, you can donate them or repurpose the pieces of they’re too poor to sell. By being creative with your unused wardrobe, you can reduce the carbon footprint in your clothing!

Utilize the Door

Other than the closet itself, did you know that you can also use your door to create more space? If you want to make a bit of space to hang your scarves, hats, or accessories, installing rods on the back of your closet door is the perfect solution!

When choosing the right door for this purpose, it’s essential to consider the types of closet doors that best suit your needs. Sliding doors, for example, offer more space as they don’t swing outward, while bifold or traditional hinged doors might provide more accessibility for hanging items.

The door space may be small, but there are countless possibilities to organize your stuff. Lining a corkboard on your door allows for hanging jewelry, while an over-door storage adds more storage without having to drill or screw anything on.

However, keep in mind the space your door storage will take up once you close it. The last thing you want is hanging things on the back of your door and not being able to close it, so you have to start all over again.

Use Slim Hangers

Some clothes require careful storing, as they can get wrinkled or damaged very easily. This is where hangers come in! Hangers are handy, as they allow fast access to clothes and keep them looking impeccable. However, what many aren’t aware of is that hangers also take up space.

Some hangers are bulky, which consume more space than necessary. To fix this problem, consider using velvet hangers or slim wood hangers.

Final Thoughts

Organizing your life is a massive undertaking. However, starting with your closet is a small but significant step to success! When you know how to organize your closet so that it fits your personal needs, you’ll find dressing up easy and enjoyable, rather than a time-consuming task. The more organized your closet is, the happier you’ll be!
