A Guide to Creating an Eco-Friendly Home

December 27, 2019 by Juliann

Whether you are planning on building or moving into a new home for your family or are simply looking for ways to reduce your current home’s carbon footprint, it is more important than ever that homeowners take steps to increase their home’s sustainability through installing equipment and devices into their home that can help them to reduce their impact on the environment. This article details how you can make a successful start in transforming the carbon footprint of your home.

Create an Eco-Friendly Garden

Creating your own compost is one of the simplest ways to look after the environment at home, with the ability to reduce the waste that you are creating and recycle from the comfort of your back garden. By composting, you will be able to have a positive effect on the growth of your garden and its appearance, while also making positive steps towards sustainability and self-sufficiency for your family. Turn your vegetables and leftovers into compost using new and innovative methods from Compost Worms in partnership with Yorkshire Worms, whose installation into your back garden can help to increase the speed and effectiveness of your composting.

When designing your garden, you may also consider the idea of growing native plants in the area rather than foreign plants. This can help to maintain natural biodiversity and sustain the animal and plant life around you. You may also want to plant trees and other plants to increase oxygen levels and attack the effects of climate change. Florist from https://lamouretfleurs.com says that planting flowers and plants can cause your brain to perform better and encourage yourself to be more creative.

Consider Your Energy Efficiency

Inside your home, you should consider installing elements such as insulation, as this can help to increase your energy efficiency by keeping the heat in your home while ensuring that your home is protected against the cold weather outside. This will also decrease your heating bills dramatically. Also, in terms of energy efficiency, it is important to install double glazing into your home by replacing your windows and any glass in your doors. Single glazing can let cold air in and cause condensation and draughts within your home, while double and triple glazing can trap heat more efficiently.

Build from Natural Materials

There has also been a recent craze in building from natural building materials in order to save the environment. If you are planning on building your home from scratch, you may consider building from natural materials rather than manufactured types such as brick. The most common natural building materials include wood and bamboo, as these are both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing for your family, while also helping to prevent the creation of manmade materials.

Install Solar Panels

Installing solar panels is a simple way that every home can make positive changes to the way that they consume energy. Solar panels can help you to generate your own clean energy from the sun rather than use electricity produced by major electricity boards. Although schemes for free solar panels have ended in the UK, you are able to get a return on your investment within around 26-28 years minimum in most parts of the UK, ensuring that you can save the environment without demeaning your life savings.

Welcome to Beautiful Moms

Hi! I’m Juliann, a wife to my wonderful husband, Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I first started Beautiful Moms Blog in 2008, my goal was to connect with and support other moms who were in the thick of raising young children. It became a creative outlet where I could share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with companies that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It’s so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. I have always believed that every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she’s in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms Blog has grown and evolved right along with me. Today, my children are adults, and I have embraced the blessings of being a grandma. My passion for encouraging women hasn’t changed—it has simply expanded to include every season of motherhood, from pregnancy and the newborn years to raising teenagers, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

I’m excited to have my daughter, Myelie, as a contributor to Beautiful Moms. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood. She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a home wherever life takes you.

Together, we’re here to support women through every age and stage of motherhood—from pregnancy to menopause—with helpful advice, honest product recommendations, beauty and wellness tips, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

We are PR Friendly and love working with great companies!
