Four Ways to Make Your Vintage Wedding Truly Authentic

June 16, 2022 by Juliann

Vintage weddings continue to be popular, but with so many brides and grooms choosing to celebrate their special day in classic style it can be hard to make your wedding stand out from others. Here are four ways to ensure your vintage wedding is the real deal!

Choose Your Venue with Care

The last thing you want, especially after spending so much on the occasion, is for your guests to feel they’ve seen and done it all before. Take time to choose a venue which meets your needs but try to look beyond the most popular venues in your area. DIY weddings are increasingly popular, where you hire a venue and provide everything else yourself, from outside catering to the decorations. This ‘make do and mend’ vibe is perfect for encompassing the simplicity of the post-war weddings of the late 1940s. If you opt for 50s glamour, a hotel with original features from the era can add authenticity.

Arrive in Style

The wedding car is a huge part of any bride’s day – you arrive at the venue in it as a Miss and depart with your loved one as a Mrs! Look for a car synonymous with the era you are honoring to stay in keeping with the theme. A company such as englishweddingcars.com will be able to help you if you are unsure.

Dress to Impress

Your wedding dress is a statement. You should feel like a princess when wearing it and with all eyes on you on your wedding day you need to feel comfortable and confident. Vintage clothing is having a resurgence in popularity and wedding dresses are a part of this. Consider wearing the dress your mom or grandma got married in or scour online selling sites and second-hand shops for original dresses. A good tailor will be able to make any adjustments needed but don’t be tempted to buy something three sizes too small. If your heart is set on a new gown for your special day, keep faithful to the style or period you have chosen. Classic jewelry and accessories will complete the look and can be picked up cheaply at charity shops, particularly those specializing in vintage items.

Food for Thought

Keep your vintage wedding authentic by offering your guests food that is in keeping with the theme. For a 1950s inspired wedding breakfast go for an American diner theme with a burger and fries main course followed by milkshakes for dessert. If you’ve chosen a 1970s spin, why not have a cheese fondue or black forest gateaux inspired wedding cake? Don’t forget the vintage drinks to get the older guests reminiscing about their misspent youths… Babycham, anyone?

Weaving original items into your wedding day may feel like a lot of work at an already busy time. Focus on the result and the knowledge you are creating a memorable, authentic and unique wedding day that will live long in the memory of your guests and, most importantly, you and your partner.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
