How to Find the Right Help for Your Troubled Teen

November 15, 2019 by Juliann

Troubled teens often get a bad rap. They are dealing with a developing brain, peer pressure, hormone imbalances, and then the challenges of day to day life, which are more than enough to cause anyone to stumble, even adults. Mental illnesses can affect anyone, including young people, and external factors do play a huge part. Being bullied, addiction, stress; all of these can worsen symptoms and lead to devastating consequences.

You cannot make their choices for them, but by knowing what to look out for, you can spot issues before they spiral out of control. The only step after that is to find them the best treatment and therapy to support them in their recovery. To help your teen build up new tools so that they can lead a healthy, happy life, read on:

Start with the Best for Your Needs

When looking for a therapy option for your teen, you are going to want to cut straight to the best. If you dip your toe in the water, your teen can easily become disenfranchised, and the belief that nothing will ever help them is going to set their recovery back significantly

Inpatient or Outpatient Facilities?

It will be up to you whether inpatient or outpatient treatment is going to be necessary.

Inpatient means that your child will stay at the facility while they detox or recover, and also while they start their therapy treatments.

Outpatient will have your child living at home but attend the same therapies at the facility. At the end of the day, it will be your decision as the parent, but it’s a good idea to take the advice of the professionals.

Therapy Options You Want Available

There are plenty of therapy options available, but the ones you will want to consider for a variety of issues are the ones that focus on building up the tools to change your child’s behavior at the source. Some of the top therapies that have a great track record include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

How to Decide on the Right Facility

Once you have found some drug rehab near me facilities that offer what you are looking for, it’s time to narrow them down. No facility is built the same, which is why you are going to want to visit the facility yourself and read reviews.

Reviews from Former Patients

Former patients who have gone through treatment at the facility will have a good idea of how effective they found it. Reading through these reviews will give you an idea of what your child can expect.

Reviews from Former Employees

You want to know that the employees who will be working directly with your child are the best. A good way to determine this is to look through reviews from former employees, like these ones, about Elevations RTC. If the employees only have good things to say about their company, then chances are they are happy to work there, and in turn, more dedicated to your child’s rehabilitation and recovery.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
