Tips for Parents to Help Your Child Develop Effective Study Skills

January 30, 2023 by Juliann Leave a Comment

If your child is struggling to score good grades in school, then this article is for you!

Most parents often put a lot of burden on their kids for studies and extracurricular activities. The school hours are already long and when they engage in extracurricular activities, there will be little or no time left to focus on their studies.

While participating in extracurricular activities is great, it doesn’t mean compromising on studies. Completing the homework and focusing on studies are equally important. And to do that, your child needs to improve their study time.

In this article, we’ll guide you on how you can make your child develop study skills and achieve academic success. So, let’s get started:

1.      Create A Dedicated Study Space

During the pandemic, you might have spruced up a dedicated space in your home for your office. But what about your child?

Creating a dedicated study space for your child will help him/her to study well and concentrate on their studies. To create an effective study space for your kids, make sure it is free of distractions like televisions, smartphones, and other tech gadgets.

Also, consider investing in a comfortable chair and a table for your kid that is conducive to focused studying.

2.      Keep A Planner

Time management is one of the most important skills, especially for children. Having a homework planner will help them remember the important dates of homework, projects, assignments, class tests, etc.

Also, you can reap the benefits of Microsoft Outlook, where all the important information is stored in the msg format. This information may include appointments, dates, tasks, calendars, and more.

Sometimes, you may struggle to open this msg file on your laptop, especially if you’re using a Mac. You can click on this link to know how to open msg file on mac. Writing all the important dates can help your child create a schedule to complete their tasks on time, be it homework, a project, or an assignment.

3.      Set Regular Short Breaks

Studying continuously for an hour or so can make your kid more stressed, resulting in poor results.

To make them study with full concentration, make sure to schedule regular short breaks so that they can refresh their mind. You can try a few options and see what works best for them. For example, you can schedule a 15-minute walk to the park with your pet or family.

Know that one trick may not work forever. So, try experimenting with different break options and focus on which works best for your kid.

4.      Make Your Child Know How To Ask For Help

If your child is struggling to understand the basic concepts of a particular topic, teach them how to ask for help. Make them understand how to ask the teacher for any doubts and don’t be afraid to come up with concerns.

You should also teach your child how to develop strong relationships with teachers and other students in the class.

Summing Up

And that’s a wrap to some of the best tips to help your child develop study skills.

Taking a good night’s sleep, getting rid of all distractions, indulging in games and activities, and dividing a big task into smaller tasks can help your child focus on their studies and score good grades.
