5 Simple Ideas To Support Your Child Starting School

March 25, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

A child starting school is an anxious time for any parent, and the child. In fact, it can be easy to overlook how nervous a child can be. But it’s normal. Everything they know, particularly their standard routine, is about to change. In most cases, children have little control over any of this. It’s easy to see why they would be nervous, but you can help make it easier for them.

  1. Enroll Them in Preschool

A good preschool, such as this childcare liverpool, will help your child get ready for school. Preschools tend to be fun, focused on games, but still creating a learning environment. That’s important as children start learning sooner and they understand how lessons are taught.

Most importantly, preschools develop routines and social skills, all of which make it easier for children to adapt and even enjoy school.

  1. Book a Visit

Preschools often organize visits to big school. This allows children to see the place and removes much of the fear as it is no longer an unknown factor. In addition, this can give them an opportunity to see who else is going to the school from their preschool group.

If the preschool isn’t doing a visit, then organize one of your own. Schools are usually happy for new children to visit prior to starting, it really helps.

  1. Talk to Your Child

One of the best things you can do is simply talk to your child. It gives them the opportunity to raise any concerns they have. You can then reassure them or even takes steps to show them that their concerns shouldn’t be an issue.

Talking to them also sets a precedent that will hopefully encourage your children to talk to you in the future. This is important for their social development and your ability to help them mature into responsible adults.

The simplest approach is to discuss the typical school day, allowing them to prepare for what will happen. But remind them that flexibility is important, things can change during the day.

  1. Meet Your Teacher

It can be useful for children to meet their new teacher; this may be done on a visit, or you can book an appointment just to see them.

Meeting the teacher allows children to introduce themselves, get an idea of what the teacher is like, and feel more confident about attending school.

In addition, you can share any relevant information with the teacher to help your child get off to the best possible start at school.

  1. Go Over the Pick-up

Finally, it is very important that your child knows how and where they will be dropped off and picked up. Going over this before the first day is essential. You should also do a practice run. It will make your child comfortable with the procedure.

Knowing where you will be makes it easier for them to be confident on their first day. They will quickly adapt and enjoy the experience.
