Life for new moms is exciting yet intimidating at the same time. They have to learn what it takes to raise a child, and that can be overwhelming and tiring, to say the least. New moms take on endless responsibilities of motherhood and having a good support system is imperative. It is important to be there for new moms and support them through all the obstacles they may encounter. That can be babysitting when they just need a break, surprising them with useful gifts, or just hanging out with them when they are feeling especially stressed. If someone you know has recently welcomed a new baby into this world, make sure you are there for them throughout their journey. Here are 5 ways to support new moms:
1. Help Out With Groceries
There is a good chance a new mom barely has time to eat, let alone go grocery shopping. An easy way to support a friend who recently gave birth is to drop off groceries for them. If you can’t find the time to go grocery shopping yourself, you can also get groceries delivered right to her. Figuring out the groceries for a new mom, even if it is just for one week, will be a huge weight off her shoulders. And if you want to take it a step further, offer to cook for her or drop off food. Any of these will make a new mom’s life so much easier.
2. Surprise Her With Flowers
Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most, and ordering flowers for new moms is a simple way to show them you care and are thinking about them. Whether the flowers are for Mother’s Day or just for a surprise gift, she is going to appreciate looking at a beautiful bouquet every morning. You just can’t go wrong with flowers!
3. Frequently Check In With Her
Something as small as shooting her a good morning text will likely make a new mom’s whole day. Frequently check in with new moms just to see how they are doing, if they need anything, and to tell them that you are there for them. It can be as simple as sending her a quick text or making a call, but if you want to go beyond just that, you can always send her a nice card in the mail.
4. Make a Care Package With Friends
If someone in your friend group has recently given birth, a nice way to show her you are all there for her is with a care package. Get all of your friends in on it and put together a cute and useful care package for the new mom. You can make the care package yourself and fill it with lotion, body scrubs, and candles so she can treat herself and unwind on those off nights. Or, you can just buy a premade care package with useful things for new moms and have it sent right to her.
5. Hang Out With Her
There is a good chance all your friend who just had baby wants is someone to hang out with her. Maybe her husband had to go back to work soon after she gave birth and she is alone all day and needs some support. Physically being there and hanging out with her can be way more meaningful than sending a gift in the mail. Offer to watch the baby while she sleeps, cook dinner, clean up around her house, or just hang out like old times. She will appreciate the gesture, whatever it may be.
Having a good support system is imperative for new moms. You do not have to go above and beyond to show you care about them, sending flowers and dropping by to hang out is more than enough. You would hope your friends would do the same if you were a new mom, so make sure you are there for your friend while she figures out motherhood.
