Reasons Why you Should Stop using Chemical Cosmetics and Skincare Products

December 7, 2017 by Juliann

There was a time when cosmetics were considered a luxury. Very few people could afford it and others kept aside makeup products only for very special occasions. These days, makeup has become an everyday grooming process. Women, especially have multiple skincare and cosmetic products they use every single day. While these make you look flawless and more attractive, these can be causing long term and permanent damage to your skin! Below are reasons why you should try reducing the number of cosmetics you use.

Headaches

You might find this funny, but a lot of cosmetics can lead to constant headaches and other illness. The culprit here is the chemicals used to preserve the cosmetic and extend its expiry date. Formaldehyde, which is a common preservative, can leave behind dizziness, tiredness, and a nagging headache.

Ageing

While you are using makeup products to look younger, these are in fact causing reverse effects on your skin. Chemical laden skincare products and cosmetics cause premature aging of skin and symptoms like wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation, and dryness. All these make you look older than your actual age!

Allergies

This is one of the most common problems of all kinds of cosmetics. When you have a delicate and sensitive skin tone, the use of harsh chemicals can immediately lead to skin infections and allergies. Chemicals like paraben, sulphates, salicylate etc. cause common allergies and are to be avoided completely. Most times, using random skin care products can make your skin damages severe instead of treating them.

Cosmetic Acne

This is yet another very common side effect of cosmetics. While there are many reasons for acne, this type breaks out only because you used a new cosmetic/skincare product on your skin. This acne can last for months together and if not treated early, can result in permanent scars. If you find your skin breaking out and rash like bumps spreading, then do start on healthy skin solutions and treatments early on. The faster you work on treating the condition, the easier it is to get rid of it.

Eye Infections

When you do not choose organic products, your eye makeup including mascaras, eyeliners and eye shadows will cause a wide range of eye infections and damages. When you constantly use these products, it becomes easy for bacteria and infections to spread around your eyes.

Cancer

There is continuous research done on the links between cosmetics and cancer. Toxic chemicals like formaldehyde, benzene, arsenic, chromium etc. are linked to encouraging cancer cells to spread. Long-term use of makeup products and skin care products might push you to fall sick. Though most brands go through rigorous testing, you just cannot be sure which ingredient is harmful to you.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
