5 Things Moms Need to Know About Meditation

August 10, 2022 by Juliann

“I can barely find time to make lunch and bathe my kids; how can I find time to meditate? “This is something that probably crossed your mind after reading this title, but there are a few things you need to know about meditation before you dismiss it. Any mother can benefit greatly from this practice and become a better parent just by setting aside a few minutes for meditation every day. If you’re not thrilled by meditation now, read all the benefits you can get from this ancient practice and your mind will be set.

Stress reduction

Parenting is one of the most beautiful things in human life, but it can also be stressful. And stress can be a true killer, especially if you don’t deal with it. Through meditation, you can easily decrease the hormones of stress and return to your true self. It’s a much healthier coping mechanism than a glass of wine or your vape, that’s for sure.

Stable emotions

As a mother, no matter if your kids are babies, toddlers, tweens or complete grown-ups, you need a lot of control over your emotions. Through meditation, you can objectively see your feelings, acknowledge them and give them time to simmer down and become constructive thoughts.

Meditation provides you with a better understanding and control of your emotions so you can be calm and collected when your kids are far from it. As a mother, you have to serve as a role model to your kids and show them how to handle their emotions in a grown up and healthy way. It’s very easy to get caught in a storm of emotions when it’s your kids in question, but meditation can make a difference in your emotional state every day.

Anxiety reduction

Stress and anxiety often go hand in hand, and many mothers struggle with both every day. We are constantly worried about our kids, our money, schedules, relationships, etc. Will my kid be a good person because he doesn’t like to share his feelings? When will we get to finish our renovations? My baby is still not walking—are they healthy? When we’re overburdened by anxiety, we start to parent from the standpoint of fear. When you feel anxious, you can turn to meditation and take some time to re-center. In addition, some people find it helpful to use crystals during meditation because of they can help you achieve inner peace and balance. The physical healing properties of crystals have been used for centuries to help people with a variety of issues. For example, tiger’s eye healing properties are good for focus, for boosting self-confidence while meditating. People place crystals around their bodies in a specific pattern; others wear crystals as jewelry or carry them in their pockets while meditating. The important thing is that you feel comfortable and relaxed while you’re meditating.

If you need to calm down in a pinch, you can find a comfort item like a necklace from a chakra crystals store and use it to ground yourself. No matter if you believe in the power of crystals or not, they offer great comfort and can help you with your quick meditation when you need to calm down somewhere in public.

Better mindfulness

It’s a word we hear all the time, but what does it mean? According to the Journal of Psychology Science, mindfulness is a practice that allows humans to see themselves with both eyes open—objectively and without preconceived notions.

This means that through mindfulness, you can stop amplifying your flaws and diminishing your successes. There are probably some instances that you said something to your kids and later regret it—it happens to all of us because we are not mindful of our words and actions. Through meditation, you can practice mindfulness, and become more objective and grounded, while also putting a stop to that spiral of negativity. Meditation should be an integral part of every parent’s routine.

So, whether you’re taking care of a newborn or a toddler with ADHD, integrating mindfulness practices into your everyday routine can significantly improve your emotional resilience and patience. This relaxing activity helps you to respond to your child’s needs with greater empathy and understanding rather than reacting impulsively or out of frustration.

Improved health and immune system

You can never have enough immune system response these days. With all the infections and viruses happening outside, it’s hard to stay healthy for your kids. And this is especially true if your little ones are in preschool or school—they will surely be exposed to all sorts of viruses they can easily bring home to their mom. Luckily, according to research conducted by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, meditation can boost your immune system. It can not only make you a stronger opponent for bacteria and viruses but also lessen the symptoms of colds and flues.

Meditation also makes you live longer, improves your mood, helps with ADHD symptoms, exercises your creativity, and makes you kinder and more compassionate…the list just keeps on going. With meditation, every mother can improve her parenting style and become a happier and healthier parent. And when mom is happy and healthy, so are the kids! So, are you ready to give meditation a try and see how it improves you as a mother, wife and boss lady?

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
